Lee Questions Zero Gov’t Subsidy For PhilHealth In 2025
Lee Questions Zero Gov’t Subsidy For PhilHealth In 2025 Manoy Wilbert “Wise” Lee questioned the removal of government subsidy for the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) in the 2025 General Appropriations Bill recently approved by the Bicameral Conference Committee. According to Lee, the decision will worsen the burden of direct contributors and affect the beneficiaries of the subsidy such as indigents, senior citizens, unemployed persons with disabilities (PWDs), and financially-incapable Point-of-Service patients, among others. It can be recalled that Lee also opposed the transfer of PhilHealth’s P89.9 billion excess funds to the National Treasury. A staunch health advocate, Lee persistently pushed for the 30% increase in PhilHealth benefits which was implemented last February 14. PhilHealth’s benefit package for hemodialysis was also expanded from P2,600 to P6,350 per session and from 90 sessions per year to 156 sessions annually, as well as the breast cancer treatment coverage which increased from P100,000 to P1.4 million. The Bicolano lawmaker is also the first to expose in 2023 that PhilHealth had an enormous available funds amounting to P466 billion investible funds and P68.4 billion net income, stressing that these should be used to expand health benefits and lower the premium contribution. Last September 25, Lee was able to secure the commitments from the Department of Health (DOH) and PhilHealth to provide a comprehensive plan to lower the out-of-pocket medical expenses of Filipinos. He spearheaded the initiative for free optometric services and free eyeglasses, and is also pushing for free diagnostic tests such as Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scan, Computed Tomography (CT) scan and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) as part of outpatient services, at least 80% coverage for cancer treatments and heart procedures, and another round of 50% increase in PhilHealth benefits. Cong. Manoy Wilbert Lee’s Push for Free Optometric Services to Benefit 40M Filipinos
Cong. Manoy Wilbert Lee’s Push for Free Optometric Services to Benefit 40M Filipinos Cong. Manoy Wilbert “Wise” Lee celebrated a breakthrough in healthcare accessibility as PhilHealth prepares to roll out free prescription glasses and optometric services in November. This initiative fulfills Lee’s commitment to securing essential health benefits for Filipinos, especially those unable to afford eye care. IPAO President Dr. John Nakpil noted that Lee’s efforts, along with DOH and PhilHealth’s support, led to the formation of a technical working group to create implementation guidelines for these benefits. The Bicolano lawmaker underscored the profound impact of this change, which promises a brighter future for millions. “Magbibigay liwanag ito hindi lang sa paningin, kundi pati na sa pang-araw-araw na pamumuhay,” he remarked, recognizing that good vision contributes to productivity and quality of life. Lee has consistently advocated for greater healthcare accessibility, with optometric services forming a crucial part of his broader vision for Universal Health Care. Additional services included in Lee’s health advocacy package with DOH and PhilHealth are free diagnostic tests such as MRI, CT, and PET scans by December 2024, along with 80% coverage for cancer treatments. “Patuloy po nating bantayan ang pagtupad ng DOH at PhilHealth sa mga ipinangako nilang serbisyong pangkalusugan,” Lee stated, vowing to ensure these commitments are fulfilled for the betterment of all Filipinos. #VisionCarePH #WilbertLeeForHealth #HealthcareAccessibility #AGRIForThePeople Healthcare Access and Equity Previous PostNext Post Latest Posts 08 Nov 2024 Cong. Lee Respects Filing Of Ethics Complaint Of Fellow Lawmakers
Lee Respects Filing Of Ethics Complaint Of Fellow Lawmakers “Hindi po natin kailanman magiging intensyon ang manakit o mambully.” This was the statement of Cong. Wilbert “Manoy” T. Lee over the decision of his fellow lawmakers in filing an ethics complaint against him. The Bicolano lawmaker further said that he had no intention to disrespect the institution and that his action was brought upon by his impassioned advocacy to put on record the commitments he secured from the Department of Health (DOH) and Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) on lowering the out-of-pocket medical expenses of Filipinos. Among the commitments sealed are: Free diagnostic tests such as Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scan, Computed Tomography (CT) scan and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) as part of outpatient services not later than December 31, 2024; At least 80% coverage for cancer treatments such as chemotherapy and procedures for heart diseases not later than December 31, 2024; 50% across-the-board PhilHealth benefit increases effective November 2024; Free pediatrics and adult prescription glasses effective November 2024. A staunch health advocate, Lee persistently and successfully pushed for the 30% increase in PhilHealth benefits which was implemented last February 14. It can be recalled that Lee deferred the budget of DOH and its attached agencies during the House plenary debates on September 23 due to his dissatisfaction over its lack of urgency and inaction on expanding PhilHealth benefit coverage despite the state health insurer’s billions of available funds that he exposed during the DOH budget briefing last year. Lee stated that he will explain his side once summoned by the House Committee on Ethics and Privileges saying, “Hinihintay lang po natin na makakuha ng opisyal na kopya para makatugon sa nasabing ethics complaint.” Healthcare Access and Equity Previous PostNext Post Latest Posts 08 Nov 2024 Cong.
